Moldova’s first anti-corruption hackathon was organized between July 8th and July 10th, in Chisinau by Garage48 and CIVITTA Estonia. The event was supported by UNDP Moldova, National Anticorruption Center and Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The goal of hackathon was to create, during 48 hours, prototypes of mobile apps and web platforms that address corruption and cover the gaps between the public, civil society and state institutions.
Participants created and presented first prototypes that will help enhance civic engagement and the possibility to address cases of corruption, or bring more awareness on this issue which affects every single citizen in Moldova. The prototypes were evaluated by an expert jury and the 3 best solutions was awarded with $10,000 to continue the development of the idea into a full working IT tool.
The StartIn Moldova team, made up of a diverse group of national and international participants, won second place for startin.MD a web platform which is an online community forum based on questions and answers.
The StartIn.md platform will enhance FSEA’s goal to be a “first call” resource for businessmen and entrepreneurs in Moldova by creating anonymous community support for important legal and regulatory questions facing small business. The core of the system are questions, every business person can go online and ask a question. The question will be directed to the government agency responsible for that area and other businesspeople will be able to share their experiences in this area.
FSEA will be responsible for finding and sharing official answers to questions that will stand as precedent for any person seeking to navigate a situation. When fully implemented this will go a long way towards dispelling the culture of intentional confusion and obfuscation that pervades ministries and agencies in Moldova.
